OSI

OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) refers to a model that was developed by the ISO to govern how messages from one computer, through a communication network, to another computer. It breaks the process of transmission into 7 distinct layers, and defines the protocols that govern communication between any two layers. This model makes it possible for different vendors to design devices that can operate at the different layers and connect with devices from other vendors as long as they abide by the defined protocols.
