CYBER RANGES is a next-generation cyber range provider in Limassol. Our cloud-based platform leverages cutting-edge technologies to manage the entire lifecycle of realistic cybersecurity scenarios – from creation and distribution to delivery for end-users. This allows us to meet the most demanding use cases of modern cyber ranges today.
Scope of the Role:
We are looking for a Senior OpenStack and DevOps Engineer to take technical ownership of our enterprise, multi-region, high-availability cloud infrastructure.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who has designed, deployed, operated, troubleshot, and upgraded OpenStack clusters – not someone who has only used OpenStack through Horizon, the CLI, or APIs.
Key Responsibilities:
– Design, deploy, and operate multi-node, highly available OpenStack environments
– Manage OpenStack control-plane and data-plane services across multiple regions
– Plan and execute major OpenStack upgrades and migrations, such as Train, Wallaby, Yoga, Zed, Caracal, or similar releases
– Deploy and maintain OpenStack using Kolla-Ansible and Ansible
– Operate and troubleshoot core OpenStack services, including:
Neutron
Nova
Keystone
Glance
Cinder
Placement
Heat
Zun and Kuryr
Manage highly available infrastructure components, including:
HAProxy and Keepalived
RabbitMQ
MariaDB/Galera
Memcached
– Integrate and operate Ceph storage with OpenStack
– Troubleshoot complex Linux, virtualization, storage, and network issues
– Automate deployment, monitoring, backup, recovery, patching, and lifecycle-management activities
– Work closely with infrastructure, security, application, and operations teams
– Produce technical documentation, operational procedures, and upgrade or recovery plans
What We are Looking For:
Required:
– At least 5 years of hands-on OpenStack engineering or operations experience
– Proven experience building and operating production OpenStack clusters
– Demonstrable experience performing OpenStack upgrades, migrations, or major version transitions
– Strong experience with Linux, KVM, Libvirt, Ansible, and Kolla-Ansible
– Strong understanding of OpenStack architecture, service dependencies, cells, scheduling, and placement
– Strong Linux networking knowledge, including:
– VLANs and network bonding
– Bridges and Open vSwitch
– Routing and NAT
– MTU and overlay networking
– VXLAN, Geneve, and provider networks
– Experience troubleshooting Nova, Neutron, RabbitMQ, Galera, HAProxy, and API-related failures
– Good understanding of high availability, capacity planning, monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery
– Ability to diagnose issues using logs, packet captures, service states, database records, and message queues
Preferred Skills:
– Docker and containerized OpenStack operations
– Kubernetes, Helm, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or similar automation platforms
– Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, or centralized logging platforms
– Python or Bash scripting
– Experience operating OpenStack in disconnected, restricted, government, defence, or security-sensitive environments
– Familiarity with cybersecurity lab, cyber-range, or enterprise private-cloud environments
Important Note:
This position is not suitable for candidates whose OpenStack experience is limited to launching virtual machines through Horizon or using OpenStack CLI commands.
We are specifically looking for an engineer who has worked directly with the OpenStack platform itself, including deployment, configuration, upgrades, high availability, storage, networking, troubleshooting, and production operations.
